“A chambermaid found the first grub, and we knew the battle was already lost.”
–Qie Zi, The Art of Seej
In 2012 the Scarab Queens announced themselves to the world of Seej with the publication of the Hexstone Bloxen, but didn’t get around to hoisting their battle flag until just recently.
The Scarab Queens infest the works of Men, slathering the Pennon with comb and royal jelly. This model is a one-piece print on an FDM printer. I had decent results printing at .18 layer height with ABS, but I’ve done test prints with PLA too that worked out fine.
The Scarab Queens rule variant allows a player to add one projectile to his stockpile for every three hexstone bloxen in his fortification, provided he also fields a Scarab Queens battle flag.
This model and many like it are available for download in The Forge.
About a year ago I designed the Seej Battle Flag, Basic to be printed on my Replicator1. A user on the Printrbot forums was having trouble getting it to print, so I decided to see if I could get it to work myself. Good news! It can be printed on a Simple without any voodoo involved.
It helps if one doesn’t try to print the model all at once, so I’ve broken it into three parts and updated the entries in The Forge and on Thingiverse accordingly.
I find leveling the Simple’s bed along the Y-axis to be a little difficult, especially as the weight of the extruder arm at maximum extension pulls it down in Z. I understand there’s a fix for this, I just haven’t had the chance to apply it yet.
I’ve aligned the parts of the battle flag along the X-axis, which should make them a little bit easier to print individually.
If you’ve never heard of Seej before, check out the rules and give it a go. It’s an Open-Source tabletop wargame based around 3d printing. Have at thee!
I’ve cleaned up and consolidated all the basic models necessary for a pick-up game of Seej and posted them as a single .zip file.
Rules for Seej are at s33j.net or at the Seej button above.
The Duergar are stoking the forge! Follow Zheng3_Jim for Seej engine teasers. Expect a new Seej engine during the week of June 4.
Again, a 3-piece model. I changed the shaft from a hexagonal to a square profile. Same printing settings as the last flag.
The 45° cut in the right edge seems to be about the most that the Replicator can handle.
Finally got this flag to print after a couple of tries. I’ve had success printing white ABS in tall vertical columns, but not so with black. I ended up printing the pole horizontally after a couple of amusing failures.
It’s a 3-piece model. Five seconds with a razor knife got everything to fit together just fine.
